Day 8: Sunday, May 29, 2022
Morino to Lido di Ostia outside Rome
190 km, 291 m of climbing

If you study the map carefully, you will find that while all roads lead to Rome, as they say, not all do so in a direct fashion. Since the choise was to head southwest after L’Aquila, the route now needs to swing around Rome in the south as well. The other major route to Rome from the mountains would run via Rieti much further north.

This way, we get to see and experiecne a bit more, although it won’t be anywhere near the climbing we have done over the previous two days. As you can see from the elevation profile, the trend is downhill with a few bumps here and there.
First, the route heads back down to Morino and takes SR82 south to Sora, about 30 km into the ride. The biggest hill we need to climb is about 70 hm to get up a range of hills after some 72 km, followed by another downhill rather quickly. About 100 km into the ride, the landscape opens to the flats stretching towards the Mediterranean sea.

Latina, a fairly new city a few km off the route at 113 km, could be a place for lunch, as there are not too many other occasions earlier. However, you may want to look for restaurants along the road, which I have frequently seen when travelling along via Street View.

The remainder of the day is riding by the see towards Lido di Ostia, all flat with a few little hills and ramps here and there. The much deserved rest day is waiting.
